The Shore Bird opened on June 29, 1979 by two best friends. From its inception it has been a gathering spot for locals as well as visitors to the islands. Always known as a fun place for food and drink at fair prices, the Shore Bird in 1984 was listed as one of the top 100 independent restaurants in the US and still holds that honor.

Many celebrities and sports figures have been spotted at the Shore Bird; Sandra Bullock, Justin Bieber, Sylvester Stallone, Dolly Parton, Nicholas Cage, Sean Penn, Adam Sandler, Bruce Willis, Tom Selleck, Troy Aikman, Joe Montana, Chris Berman, Tom Jackson and even the King of Jordan and his entourage stopped in for dinner. The Shore Bird features unique concepts and promotions including the 80’s and 90’s world famous bikini contest and the popular karaoke of today making the Shore Bird a must stop when visiting Waikiki.

The Shore Bird’s popular “Barbeque at the Beach” dinner theme featuring an “All you care to eat” salad bar has spanned over 5 decades, since 1979. More than 6 million dinners have been served by the Shore Bird staff over the years. Meat carver Jaime Abad, estimates he has cut over 3 million steaks during his 30 years of employment with the company. The grills at the Shore Bird are filled nightly with people from all over the world. The “Thrill of the Grill” is quite an experience with stories and laughter being shared, and long lasting friendships made nightly.

The incredible food is served by a staff that knows the true meaning of “Aloha”.  It is what has made the Shore Bird a 5 decade success. Whether you join us for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks – you will become part of our family for life. The two best friends that opened this famous eatery so many years ago never imagined it’s phenomenal success and could not be more proud or happier for all the great people that have worked, met, celebrated and even proposed at the Shore Bird. It is these people that have ensured the Shore Bird’s longevity for the past 37 years.

Today the two best friends, who opened up the doors in June, 1979, still own and operate the Shore Bird and still remain best friends–that’s the real story…one can only imagine the stories they can tell…
